Soliloquy at Sunset
From the dictionary:
Noun
An act of speaking one’s thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers.
Or:
A soliloquy is a literary device in which the character speaks to him or herself, relating his or her innermost thoughts and feelings as if thinking aloud.
So often I am asked about my design process, how do I come up with ideas, what inspires me. The only way I can really explain it is that it’s kind of like those potions we used to make when we were little. You know the ones where you raid every cupboard in the house, gathering everything you can find from tomato sauce to shampoo to moms’ new perfume, that all gets smooshed into a pot somewhere and mixed into magical potions that can make you fly.
I never start with a clear picture in my head. It always begins with a pile of colours that are “speaking” to me. To me, colour is one of the most important aspects of my design process. It ultimately dictates where my brain goes and in turn the design follows.
Once I have a pile (and yes I tend to begin with a large pile that is then narrowed down to a slightly smaller pile) of colours that make my heart sing, I begin to play. I might have an idea of how I want to construct a blanket, but the colours and stitches are what tell me little stories and lead me up little paths and alleys that need to be explored. I talk to myself constantly when I design, out loud lol, so much so that my son thinks I’m a bit odd!
I’m not sure I really know how to explain what I do any better than it really is thoughts and feelings and ideas and doodling, ok I’m not gonna lie, a bit of swearing on the odd occasion also lol, that hopefully come together to make something pretty.
Ness, do you really think the peeples are going to understand your ramblings?
I don’t know Ness, but we couldn’t really call the blanket Ramblings at Sunset.
Ness laughed at herself, hmmmmmm but why not? LOLOLOLOL gosh, maybe Cade is right, you are a bit odd!

- Round for round instructions with each part.
- Detailed photo tutorials with each part.
- Print Friendly files for each part - pattern files without photo tutorials (there is no print friendly file for The Prelude).
The pattern has been designed in cotton but is suited to most yarns. If you are not working the pattern in my choice of yarn, your yarn quantities may differ.
Selecting multiple colours to work the pattern will also increase the quantity of yarn used. Yarn thickness, hook size and tension will affect the overall size of the blanket.
Throughout the written pattern there are detailed photo tutorials.
