Clean lines and a Southwest theme inspired these simple colorwork socks. While these could be knit with any complementary color palette, the subtle elegance of the design lends itself to the rich autumn tones of New Mexico. Color rather than fancy stitchwork brings out the interest in this mid-calf length design.

These socks are knit one at a time, cuff down, on 9” circular needles using double pointed needles for the heel flap & turn and toe decreases. You can also knit them solely with DPNs but it will be much easier on a 9” circular.

Requires 1 1/4-1.5 hanks of the main color - Knit Picks Gloss Fingering colorway “Fedora” (or if you have the out-of-print “Timber” in your stash that works also).

Requires ~2/3 hank of contrast color - Knit Picks Gloss Fingering colorway “Masala” divided into 4 balls.

The pattern describes how to vary the length - this is easy.
The sock is based on 60 stithes so the sock circumference can be adjusted most easily by adjusting gauge, or the pattern makes suggestions on where to increase or decrease stitch count.

Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
Previous experience with intarsia is helpful but not required.

You could watch TV, but you will have to do some counting and row tracking.

Memorizability: Variable
Individual rows are pretty intuitive, but you have to keep an eye on the overall design. There are several sections where the same row is repeated a number of times.*
