When asked to create a piece for a spring retreat I really thought a lot about what kind of knitting I liked to bring to a retreat or social knitting. I really wanted it to be something that was easy to memorize with short repeats, and I wanted it to be simple enough to let a beautiful yarn shine. I think this pattern does both really well.

Square Dance incorporates rest rows with a slipstitch mosaic checker motif in a classic top down triangle shape. Once you get going you can easily read your knitting and pick this up and put it down, making it a great project for social knitting or a busy mind.

MATERIALS
Yarn:
MC: (1) skein of DraKe by Moondrake Co. (85% Fine Superwash Merino, 15% Mulberry Silk, 246 yds / 223 m – 100 g), in “Moon”.
CC: (1) skein of above yarn in “Ocean”.

Or approx.
MC: 246 yds / 223 m of DK weight yarn or any yarn you obtain gauge with.
CC: 150 yds / 137 m of DK weight yarn or any yarn you obtain gauge with.
Note: Some might find they achieve better gauge with a sport or light DK. Please check yardage and gauge. For C1 I used almost the entire skein.

Needles: US 7 / 4.5 mm 32” / 81 cm circular needles.
Notions: Snips, darning needle, (4) stitch markers, blocking materials.

CONSTRUCTION
Top down triangular shawlette. Garter top edge with 2 color mosaic (working only one color per row) bands of checks between fields of stockinette. Finished with 2x2 ribbing edge.
