There are times when a scarf or shawl just won’t do. Windy days always make me long for a cowl / infinity scarf so that the ends don’t blow away and unwrap themselves from my neck!

This Stained Glass Infinity Scarf is the counterpart to my gorgeously lacy shawl pattern. With its ridges and waves, it reminds me so much of the colour blocks you see in old stained glass windows. The delicate gaps enhance that textured effect and the raised rows resemble the lead cames (dividing lines).

It also makes for a luxuriously squishy snood, giving a surprising amount of warmth thanks to the many layers of lacy alpaca yarn.

It’s an easy intermediate pattern because although it takes some concentration to get your stitch count right to start with, it soon becomes a very meditative make with a simple 2-row repeat for the most part.

The infinity scarf is worked flat in successive rows, turning at the end.

Throughout this pattern, the starting chain 5 counts as your 1st stitch. You’ll work a simple rectangle of 3 colour block sections, finally seaming the 2 short ends together to create your cowl.

I’ve included a photo tutorial to clarify what you’ll be doing at each stage and to make any new techniques as straightforward as possible to learn.
