About the pattern:
The “Starry Reverie Shawl” is named after the beautiful “Reverie” colourway of Kinfolk Yarn’s BFL sock yarn, as well as the lovely star stitch that adorns the shawl. To be in a state of reverie is to be lost in pleasant thoughts, which is how I intended this shawl to be knit: lots of straightforward knitting so you can let your mind loose and daydream, but just the right amount of challenge to break your reverie at gentle intervals.

Yarn / Yardage:
This pattern uses most of 2 skeins of fingering weight or 4 ply sock yarn. Choose a lovely variegated yarn for the body, and a teeny bit of solid colour for a contrast picot bind-off. Or go with a solid or semi-solid colourway to highlight the lovely star stitch.

Gauge:
Gauge is not critical, but for comparison, I got 22 sts / 4” in the star stitch pattern, using 4.5 mm (US 7) needles. If your gauge is different, please note that this will affect the final dimensions of your scarf.

Size / Final Measurements:
This shawl comes in one size, and the final blocked dimensions are 60” (wingspan) and 20” (from centre top to bottom edge).

Difficulty:
This pattern is appropriate for an advanced beginner who is familiar with basic increases, YOs, K2TOG decreases. Written instructions are provided for the star stitch and picot bind-offs; links to video tutorials for these techniques are also provided in the pattern.

Pattern Notes:
Designed to showcase the beauty of hand-dyed yarns, the shawl is knit from the top down, and incorporates a few simple stitches, and one very easy-to-memorize star stitch pattern. You can finish your shawl with a picot bind-off, or for a bit of sparkle you can add beads to your picot bind-off. Use your working yarn, or finish with a contrast coloured yarn.

Errata
In version 1, step 6 is missing from the beaded picot bind-off. It should read: “Step 6: knit 2, slip LH needle into the front of these two stitches, and knit them together by wrapping the yarn around the RH needle). Repeat once more.” Version 2 has been updated with this correction.
