This design is the second of a series—twelve explorations of different knit-purl stitch patterns throughout 2025. This month, we’re looking at Twin Rib. Like last month’s Farrow Rib, it isn’t as elastic as a 1 x 1 or 2 x 2 rib, but it has more visual interest than a plain rib. Worked over a 6-stitch repeat, it features columns of stockinette stitches, garter stitch, and reverse stockinette stitches. The pattern document includes general instructions for working Twin Rib flat and in the round, as well as specific instructions for a sample square, and a hat and scarf set. It also includes a few designer ideas to help inspire your own designs featuring the Twin Rib stitch.

The techniques you will need to know, or learn, in order to complete this project are:

  • cast on and bind off;
  • knit and purl;
  • k2tog decrease;
  • p2tog decrease.

I will be donating all of the items from this year’s Stitch Play to a local charity, and encourage all participants to consider knitting for charities, whether based in their own hometown or going to people in need anywhere in the world.
