I took a different approach on designing a hat by constructing around an “axis”, rather than the usual bottom up or top down designs. Mixing a skein of Madelinetosh Vintage and some colorful scraps, an easy chevron pattern, colorwork, slip stitches, and German short rows to shape the brim and crown,

STOLZ was born, and I am PROUD of it! Grab a skein of worsted or DK weight yarn, dig out some colorful scraps you didn’t want to throw away, and you will also be proud to make and show off this unique piece of headwear!

MATERIALS:
One Skein of Madelinetosh Vintage yarn (100%
Superwash Merino wool. 200 yards.) Sample
shown in colorway “Silver Fox” (about 90 yards
used.)
Eight scraps of yarn measuring at least 12 yards
each. Sample uses the following colors in
Madelinetosh Vintage:
• CC1: Tart
• CC2: Glazed Pecan
• CC3: Winter Wheat
• CC4: Moorland
• CC5: Esoteric
• CC6: Cobalt
• CC7: Flashdance (On the pattern PDF, it was mistakenly listed as Iris. The colors are very alike, so either can work).
• CC8: Lepidoptera
US 7 24” circular needle (for this project, straight
needles will also work.
Crochet hook and other scrap yarn (for
provisional cast on).
Two stitch markers.
Tapestry Needle.

GAUGE AND MEASUREMENTS:
9 ½” from brim to top of hat.
22” in circumference around brim.
About 8 sts and 16 rows every 2” in stockinette
stitch, blocked.

PATTERN NOTES: Read the entire pattern before beginning to familiarize yourself with the project. When choosing a color order for your scraps, label each one as CC1, CC2, etc. so you know which color to use next.
