Inspiration for this hat came from an old film noir. In the movie, Strangers on a Train, the antagonist uses the phrase “crisscross” over and over while trying to convince a stranger to kill someone for him. The cable stitch used here is called Criss Cross. The knitting should go quickly as you get plenty of rest rounds, and the cables are intuitive to work. If you can find the movie to watch as you knit, all the better.
