Stretch the Ride
Stretch the Ride MKAL details
Stretch the Ride is a non-profit in Pottstown, PA that provides financial assistance to local cancer patients and their families. Read more about them on their website.
Our knitting club, Brookside Knits, raises money each year to give to this organization. For 2021 we decided to do a Mystery Knit-a-Long (MKAL). All the proceeds from this pattern will go directly to Stretch the Ride. The clues have all been released and are available immediately upon purchase of the pattern.
Stretch the Ride Pattern Info
The Stretch the Ride Wrap is a choose-your-own-adventure style MKAL. You choose the size, the yarn, the needles and the stitch patterns, with guidance along the way.
The Wrap is knit in a rectangular shape, on the bias. Each clue has a choice of two stitch patterns including lace, texture, slipstitch and stripes, with optional shortrows and beads.
Use any yarn, from fingering to worsted weight. Using a lighter weight yarn will give you a drapey, delicate wrap; using a heavier yarn will give you a denser, warmer wrap.
Yarn requirements
Choose any weight, in three contrasting colors, A: light, B: dark and C: medium or “pop” color.
Size small scarf fingering: 50g of each color (220 yds)
Size small scarf worsted: 100g of each color (220 yds)
Size large shawl fingering: 100g of each color (440 yds)
Size large shawl worsted: 200g of each color (440 yds)

Sizing
Small Short: 8 inch x 63 inch (25cm x 160cm)
Small Long: 8 inch x 70 inch (25cm x 178cm)
Large Short: 19 inch x 63 inch (48cm x 160 cm)
Large Long: 19 inch x 70 inch (48cm x 178cm)
Sizes are measured as the completed width of the item after finishing. Due to the bias shaping, the rows knit are not the width of the scarf/shawl, but rather the length of the bias that will form the bottom triangular portion.
To measure the length of the bias: Small 51 sts at 5 sts/inch = 10 inches in length. Large 126/127 sts at 5 sts/inch = 25-25 1/2 inches in length.
