Swordle Bay Legwarmers
The Swordle Bay legwarmers were inspired by the beautiful white beaches, dark brown rocky shorelines and large areas of machair with their small flowers in Ardnamurchan, on the west coast of Scotland. The swirling waves and flowers are the perfect backdrop for showing the variety of natural, undyed wool shades from the Sanna Bay croft flock on Ardnamurchan.
The legwarmers are designed to be worn with 3–4 cm / 1.25–1.5 in positive ease for wearing around legging or tights. Use more ease to wear over trousers or thick layers.
The ribbing at the knee and at the ankles help with tensioning the legwarmers into position and can be customised using different ribbing needle sizes if the desired ankle measurement falls between sizes.
The Swordle legwarmers are knit entirely in the round from the bottom up, starting with a single colour ribbed cuff at the bottom, followed by a series of colourful waves (using 3 colours) leading to a central panel of flowers stranding 5 colours. The waves are then worked again in the reverse order up to the single colour rib at the top.
This design can be knitted in less than 5 colours. Extra charts have been provided to show the 2 colour option.
