Gauge
32 sts & 40 rows to 10cm (4in) over Fair Isle pattern knitted flat and after blocking. We obtained this gauge using 3mm (US 2.5) needles.

Pattern Notes
This beret is constructed in a unique way, using a combination of horizontal and vertical panels of Fair Isle and stocking stitch sections. The first Fair Isle strip is worked horizontally, back and forth, commencing with a provisional cast on and then a bias shaped stocking stitch panel is worked vertically and joined to the live stitch off the Fair Isle strip. The next Fair Isle strip is worked horizontally off the first stocking stitch panel and so on until all the sections are knitted. The final stocking stitch panel is then joined to the cast on of the first Fair Isle strip. The centre top of the crown is then picked up and knitted upwards. Finally the ribbed brim is worked.
