Taqueria Wrap
The Taqueria Wrap combines bold patterns in a parallelogram shape to make the most of a single cake of Lang Bloom. This wrap blocks to a whopping 82-inch length! This design also would work well with other DK-weight tonal or gradient yarns; for a similar warm-weather fabric choose a cotton or linen blend.
As soon as I saw the bold colors of Lang Bloom, it reminded me of the bright, geometric folk art hanging in my favorite restaurant and I was inspired to create a happy hour-worthy wrap. I wanted an easy-to-wear skinny shawl that could be thrown over casual clothes or spice up a more formal outfit. The splashes of color and textures throughout the yarn add a playful feel to the wrap, and make the pattern exciting to knit.
The wrap begins at one corner and is knit lengthwise into a parallelogram shape with chevron lace, nupps, and dropped stitches running widthwise. Although this accessory was designed with a specific yarn in mind, there are plenty of options for knitters to customize the pattern to suit their preferences. The pattern is both fully charted and fully written. Pages 1-3 contain general information and instructions; charts are on p. 4-6 (the chart key is on p.5 since chart B is the smallest), and line-by-line written instructions are on p. 7-10, along with row counts. The length of the wrap can easily be customized if you choose to use more than 150g of yarn by adding more repeats of Chart B; additional ideas are given for knitters who may wish to substitute the nupps with bobbles or beads.
Materials
Lang Yarns “Bloom” 70% cotton, 18% viscose, 12% linen; 492 yds per 150g cake; 1010.0073, 1 cake
1 US #7 / 4.5 mm circular needle, 16-inch (straight needles could also be used)
because the yarn is relatively slippery, I recommend using bamboo needles
NOTIONS: stitch markers if desired, tapestry needle
GAUGE: 19 sts / 20 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette stitch (gauge is not critical for this project, but it will affect total yardage)
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Width - 14 inches wide
Overall length -82 inches
** The shawl, as pictured, can easily be completed with one ball of Lang Bloom (I used only 142g to account for some variation between knitters), but it easily can be modified with additional repeats or bobbles/beads in place of the nupps if you wish to use more than 150g of yarn. **
