We all have our comfort project, the one we go to when we just need to knit. The shawl has a triangular shape, knitted in comforting and meditative garter stitch, which makes the shawl squishy and warm. that gives it stunning drape. Its soothing arter stitch body is interrupted by a stripe of cable ribbing.
This piece is sure to be a joy to knit. Perfect for wearing on a summer night. Simple to work and quickly completed! Wrap your shawl around your shoulders with a flourish and let’s head out to see what the day brings.
Bottom up construction shawls, typically begins by casting on the maximum number of stitches for the two bottom edges, and working shaping decreases to the center point of the top edge, finishing with a bind off of few stitches by the end.
This shawl is shaped by side and central decreases to the center of the top edge (on the right side row). Bottom up shawls are so satisfying to knit to a few finish sts. It may seem a bit complicated staring from the bottom up with so many stitches on the needles. But it’s not and it is a fun pattern and easily adapted for multicolour project.
Construction:
- This shawl is knitted flat, from the bottom up, with decreases every RS row at each side edge and at center spine throughout shawl.
-It may be helpful to mark the right side of the work with a safety pin or removable marker. At the beginning, later on after working the chart rep it may not be as necessary. -Garter stitch sections are very elastic, so the shawl will lengthen when worm, adding drape.
-When working decrease at the edge of the shawl work them loosely to help keep a stretchy edge.
- When pattern indicates a colour change, join yarn at side of work leaving a tail to be woven in.
For stripe sequences of more than 2 rows between colour changes, break yarn leaving a tail, and weave in at the end or as you go.
