Thaleia shawl
Thaleia was the muse of comedy and pastoral poetry, and the name means “flourishing, blooming or festive.”
The Thaleia shawl has a triangular shape, and it is worked from the tip to the ribbed edge. One side of the shawl features a lace pattern, while the other side is knitted in a comforting and meditative garter stitch, which makes the shawl squishy and warm.
The size of the shawl is easily modified. Just keep adding more rows for a bigger version. You can also finish the shawl by adding tassels to the corners.
Size
One size
Total length: 140 cm / 55.25 inches
Total width at top: 95 cm / 37.5 inches
Yarn
Note: The shawl uses a strand of fingering weight yarn held together with a strand of lace weight yarn, but they can be substituted for a single strand of DK weight yarn. If you wish to work a DK weight version, omit all the instructions where it says “hold the yarns together” and follow only the yarn amount requirements for the fingering weight yarn.
750 m / 820 yards of fingering weight yarn and 750 m / 820 yards of lace weight yarn + a little extra yarn for the tassels.
Sample: 4 skeins of Gepard Garn Wild & Soft (60 % merino wool, 40% tussah silk; 240 m / 262 yards per 50 g), shown in colorway 144 and 4 skeins of Gepard Garn Kid Seta Tweed (70 % mohair, 30% silk; 210 m / 230 yards per 25 g), shown in colorway 406.
Needles
4 mm / US 6 circular needles with a cable of at least 80 cm / 32”
Always use the needle size that gets you the right gauge.
Gauge
16 sts (one pattern repeat of Chart 3) = 8 cm / 3.25 inches, knitted flat, blocked.
19 sts and 34 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches over garter stitch, knitted flat, blocked.
