The Crayon Box 18-06
The stitch pattern is called “Little Leaf Stripe” and the three colours tumble through two widths of stripes, so I call this design “Tumbling Leaves.”
It begins with a tab cast-on, and is worked top-down, with 4 stitches being increased every right-side row to create the triangular shape. The first and last three stitches of every row are knit, creating a garter stitch top edge for the shawl. It is an easy lace pattern, with an 8-stitch, 4-row repeat, and with wrong side rows being purled across, so this could be a good project for a knitter wanting to make their first top-down triangular shawl.
Skills Needed:
- cast on and bind off
- pick up stitches for tab cast-on
- knit and purl
- yarn over
- single decreases: k2tog, SSK
- double central decrease: sk2p
The original yarns were bought at the 2017 Koigu tent sale, and may no longer be available. Substitute other colours of your choice. Wool rich fingering weight yarn from other brands should yield similar results. Yarns do not have to be handpainted; in fact, three solid colours in gradient--or contrasting--shades would also be effective.
Part of a curated collection of colourful designs inspired by--but not limited to--Koigu’s glorious handpainted yarns.
