The Pillars of The Earth is one of the reads that accompanied my adolescence.
The combination of the color of this yarn with the twisted knit pattern I created for this hat immediately made me think of the pillars of a gothic cathedral!
Worked from bottom up, this versatile and interesting hat is easy to make and wear. Designed in a single size, it can be easily adapted to other yarn weights and multiple sizes. You can also personalize your own making it larger, deeper (for a slouchy version), or adding a folded brim with simple modifications to the pattern.

Sizes to fit: one size, stretchy, it will fit most adult sizes.
Final measurements (unstretched): height: 22 cm / 8.75”; circumf: approx 41 cm / 16.5”.
Gauge: one rep of the stitch pattern corresponds to 17 sts x 14 rnds = 10 x 4 cm / 4 x 1.5” with 4 mm (US 6) needle; one rep of the twisted rib pattern used in the brim corresponds to 17 sts = 7.5 cm / 3” and 32 rnds = 10 cm / 4”, with 3.75 mm (US 5) needle, after blocking.
Yarn: approximately 120 metres / 131 yards of worsted weight yarn. Yarn used in the sample: Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage, Worsted, 100% SW merino, 182 meters (200 yards) / 100 gr, color Woodstock.
Notions: Needles 40 cm / 16” circular needle size 3.75 mm (US 5) and 4 mm (US 6) or needle size needed to obtain the gauge, DPNs size 4 mm (US 6) one set.
