The Red Dragon
Wales has, undoubtedly, the coolest flag in the British Isles, if not the world. Most flags would be improved by the addition of a dragon.
The pattern includes instructions for both the hat and the cowl. The hat comes in two sizes;
Smaller size: to fit head approx 56cm/22”
Larger size: to fit head approx 60cm/23”
The cowl is approx 29cm/11.5” wide and 19cm/7.5” high.
The hat has the Welsh Flag twice around, divided by a Welsh Love Spoon design. The cowl has the dragon three times around.
The rib and plain sections are knit with the smaller needles and the stranded section uses the larger size of needles. I recommend a 40cm - 60cm circular for the cowl and body of the hat, changing to a longer circular for magic loop for the crown of the hat, although DPNs would also work.
Either the hat or the cowl can be made with a 20g miniskein of Kinross 4ply in Seaweed, Mary and Snowdrop. The cowl will use every inch of the miniskein in the green and white so you may want more to be on the safe side if your tension is different. Alternatively you can skip a few of the plain rounds of the cowl.
