Thea Balaclava is knitted top-down in a pattern. First, you knit a rectangle that forms the top of the head. Then stitches are picked up along the rectangle, and you work back and forth. Under the chin, new stitches are cast on and the work is joined, so you can knit in the round to form the neck. Finally, stitches are picked up along the balaclava opening, and a ribbed edge is worked.

The difference between the two sizes is the fit. Size 1 has a closer fit, while size 2 has a slightly oversized and chunky fit. Both sizes follow the same pattern but are knitted at different gauges: size 1 is worked on 4.5 mm needles and size 2 on 5.5 mm needles and with an extra strand.

Size 1: 100 g Moon from Tante Grøn (50 g = 110 m) or Snefnug from CaMaRose (50 g = 110 m) or Isager Soft from Isager (50 g = 125 m).
Size 2: 100 g Moon from Tante Grøn (50 g = 110 m) or Snefnug from CaMaRose (50 g = 110 m) or Isager Soft from Isager (50 g = 125 m) held together with 50 g Tweed from Tante Grøn (50 g = 350 m) or Alpaca 1 from Isager (50 g = 400 m).

Suggested needles:
Size 1: 4.5 mm circular needle (40 and 60 cm) and 4 mm circular needle (40).
Size 2: 5.5 mm circular needle (40 and 60 cm) and 5 mm circular needle (40).

Gauge:
Size 1: 17 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm in pattern on 4.5 mm needles after washing and blocking.
Size 2: 14 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm in pattern on 5.5 mm needles after washing and blocking.
