Thraw | verb: to twist or turn

Cables and eyelets delicately balanced as they twist and turn down the leg. These socks were inspired by Neo-Gothic windows echoing their ornate but perfectly balanced details. After the intricately cabled leg the foot is simply highlighted with a single cable column. A twist on the standard heel flap sees the gusset decreases placed under the foot; this creates a wonderfully fitted heel, while allowing the cable detail on the foot to take centre stage.

Materials

Ginger’s Hand Dyed Sheepish Sock (4ply/Fingering weight; 80% Bluefaced Leicester, 20% Nylon; 365m/399yds per 100g skein)
Shade: Bourbon and Water; 1 x 100g skein

2.5mm / US#1.5 needles suitable for working small circumferences in the rnd
4 stitch markers

Gauge

32 sts and 44 rnds over 10cm / 4in of stocking stitch worked in the rnd and blocked, using 2.5mm / US#1.5 needles.

Finished circumference (unstretched):
17.5 (20, 22.5) cm / 7 (8, 9) in
To fit foot circumference approx:
19.5 (22, 24.5) cm / 7.5 (8.5, 9.5) in
Leg from cuff to base of heel flap approx:
24 (25, 26) cm / 9.5 (9.75, 10) in
The length can be adjusted by knitting shorter or longer cuff.
