This easy to knit ultra stylish shawlette or bandana cowl features garter stitch edging and a shawl “spine” that resembles a thunderbolt or zig zag.

Being a huge soccer fan was actually the inspiration behind this cowl or shawl. For those familiar with the eloquent announcer Ray Hudson, he once uttered “Like a lightning bolt from Zeus’ hand!” while covering a play. He’s famous for other colorful phrases too but that one stuck in my mind and so became the catalyst for this piece. :)

I used about 200 yards of Cotton-Ease yarn in the color Lake to make the shawlette shown in the photos.

The shawlette is finished off either by sewing up the opposing ends at the top edge or by adding a button for closure.

To make this shawlette or bandana cowl you will need to know how to knit (k) and purl (p) stitches, and do yarn overs (yo).

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
The finished piece measures about 32” across the top edge, 15” in height from bottom to top edge and the sides measure 19”.
