Straight or circular knitting needle(s), size 6 (4.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Cable needle, stitch marker, scissors and darning needle
GAUGE
23 sts = 4” (10.2 cm); 28 rows = 4” (10.2 cm) in stockinette stitch
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE
NOTE
- To maintain a clean edge, slip the first stitch of each row as if to purl with the yarn in front. If the next stitch is a knit stitch, move the yarn to the back of the work. If the next stitch is a purl stitch, leave the yarn at the front.
The rate of increases is every other row, always on the RS.
Shawl is worked from the left to right.
23 stitch cable border (rows 21 - 46) is charted but full written directions are provided below as well.
Wet blocking and pinning edges down is essential to allow the cable border to lie flat.
