The Tole-Painted Pillow is worked from the center out in two pieces in a brilliant two-color stranded-colorwork pattern. The outer edges of the pieces are grafted together, and two shank buttons are sewn back-to-back in the center of each side through all the layers. If your pillow form is machine washable, you can put this pillow in the wash.

Finished Size 14½“ diameter, stretches to 16” diameter over pillow form.

Yarn Cascade Yarns Heritage (75% superwash Merino wool, 25% nylon; 437 yd 400 m/3½ oz 100 g): #5615 Royal (MC) and #5618 Snow (CC), 1 skein each.

Needles Size 3 (3.25 mm): Two 24” circulars (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Marker (m); 16” round pillow form; two 11⁄8” shank buttons; sewing needle and heavy-duty thread; tapestry needle.

Gauge 30 sts and 36 rnds = 4” in charted patt (unblocked).

NOTES

  • This pillow consists of two separate pieces that are worked in the round from the center to the outer edge. The pillow form is sandwiched between the two pieces, and the live stitches are grafted together around the outer edge. The two shank buttons are sewn back-to-back through all layers in the center of each side .
