Torpor is a state of lowered physiological activity in response to environmental conditions such as cold and heat. Chilly weather makes us hunker down and snuggle somewhere cozy while hot weather demands less energetic activity. Torpor Socks provide the perfect excuse for hibernating at home with a comforting cup of tea and a relaxing yet rewarding knitting project.

These mid-calf socks showcase the subtle beauty of a slightly variegated yarn. The front and top of each sock features an exquisite cable and eyelet lace panel while the remainder of the sock is worked in comfortable stockinette. Sparkling glass beads inserted in the eyelet lace add a touch of glamour. These socks are worked from the top down and the left and right socks are identical.

Skills/Techniques Required:

  • basic sock knitting skills
  • following charted stitch patterns
  • lace and cables
  • inserting beads with crochet hook
  • grafting using kitchener stitch
