This was my very first design and crochet project that I worked on while I lived in Edinburgh. Inspired by the trams I created this waffle style cowl with an image of the tram tracks crossing. With many an hour spent doing it and ripping it back. You wouldn’t know to look at my first version of this cowl that my tension is all over the place and it’s thinner in width in some areas.

But that is what I love about this cowl. It makes an excellent first project for anyone learning to crochet for the very first time. You can make mistakes and learn the art of fixing/hiding them. You can have a crazy tension as you learn the process. But at the very end when you’ve finished it. You can wear it with pride as no-one is going to even notice.

I still wear my squint cowl and I love it!

You can make this cowl longer if you like, just use more yarn. Any DK weight will do really, so don’t just use what I say. It’s your project. Make it your own!
