Tumbling Triangles Cowl
The Tumbling Triangles Cowl is a simple cowl that provides a canvas for color play and an opportunity to embrance marled chance. The cowl is named for the changing of the seasons. Its triangles point our way around and around and around the sun from one season into another. They encircle us the way that we are encircled by the rhythm of nature’s changes and echo our orbit around the sun. Depending on the colors you choose, the triangles can remind you of the leaves in Autumn, flakes of Winter snow, the first buds and shoots of Spring, or refractions on the surface of a Summer lake. The marled interior smooths, blends, and integrates these discrete pieces into a cohesive whole.
The cowl is knit sideways in a tube, one half knit with stranded colorwork, the other half knit marled. This combination lends remarkable speed to the process! You can choose to wear the cowl with either the marl or the color work showing. The cowl is cast-on with a provisional cast on (video tutorial included), knit in a tube, and then joined with a 3-needle bind off that leaves a decorative seam. It’s a great canvas for using your precious mini-skein set.
The design comes in two color styles; one multicolor and one more monochromatic. The multicolor chart is included in this pdf and also a link to the more monochromatic chart. When substituting colors, the result will be more harmonious if you pick a light, medium, and dark option from the same color family for the Main Colors. The chart contains a rhythm of light and dark contrast and flow that ought to work irregardless of what exact colors are used if they have a light/medium/ dark relationship. Sticking with one color family (warm, cool, reds, greens, etc) for the main colors and one tonal family for the Neutrals (browns or grays etc) will work well! When swapping on Stitchfiddle, replace MC1 with your own Light Main Color, MC2 with your own Medium Main Color, MC3 with your own Dark Main Color etc.
Pdf includes instructions for customizing your own chart online and substituting colors.
Color scheme follows a logic of having a light, medium, and dark in a Main Color family, a contrasting color pop, and a light, medium, dark Neutral.
