I was inspired to write this pattern by a beautiful scarf that I found online. As someone who knits, I totally stand behind the cost of the online beauty (in the hundreds), but, as someone who knits, I often would just rather knit it myself and have the loveliness for a fraction of the cost :-)

It took some figuring, but I finally came up with something that I think is stunning!

I then turned to my husband’s beautiful Aunt (who grew up in Paris) to help me come up with a name for the pattern, and there you have it - Une Echarpe Trouee (translated it means a scarf full of holes - the French say it so much better…)

The open, airy look of this scarf makes it a great pattern for Spring or Summer, as well as a Fall into Winter scarf if you use wool yarns instead of cotton or silk.

The finished scarf as written measures about 18” wide, and 56” total length, unblocked. This is very easy to make larger by simply adding pattern repeats until you get the length you want. Pattern also has instructions for making it narrower or wider.

This is a simple pattern, suitable even for a newby knitter.

SKILLS needed: Basic knitting knowledge, wrapping stitches/yarn overs

General Materials Needed to make scarf as shown:

fingering, sock or lace weight yarn (about 850 yards)

US 9 knitting needles (I use circulars to knit straight with projects like this one)
