Unexpected Turn
Short Story: Unexpected Turn begins as a hat then turns into a scarf with a tapered point finished with an outrageously fantastic pompom.
Long Story:
Here is the thing. I am an adult who adores Felonious Gru from the movie, Despicable Me. Yes, I know he is not a real man. His gray and black striped scarf is simple yet alluring. One day, I thought to myself, what if….
What if I created a hat that just kept on growing?
What if I made the hat turn into a scarf?
What if I designed it so that it ended with a tapered point?
What if I added a pompom just because I adore them?
What if I knit with leftover sock yarn?
What if I knit in the round forever?
So I did.
My suggestion to you, dear knitter, is this: Look at your stash and pick your favorite fingering weight yarn and simply cast it on. Once you are in need of a change or run out of your favorite, pick another leftover nugget of joy. Match the colors if you want. Keep to the same palette. Jump around. Have fun. Be creative. Close your eyes and decide.
I was at the gym and thought what if I simply knit in the round forever. So I did. I used a ton of fingering weight sock yarn - all left over balls.
There are 16 colors utilized with three colors used twice. Each left over ball had roughly 100-300 yards remaining. This means roughly 3800 yards of yarn were used.
This pattern is meant to be a blueprint for you to be creative and have fun. Make it in one color, in 4 colors, in 100 colors. There are no rules.
I look forward to seeing your creations.
Enjoy and be well!
