During the chilly months of winter, you can never have too many hats to choose from – especially on those days when you want a little bit of cabled style while rushing through the city. The Union Station beret is a small but beautiful canvas to practice working cables, and is a welcome accessory knit for a variety of worsted weight yarns – you might even have something waiting in your stash. Worked here with wonderfully wooly and soft Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted, the Union Station beret will be a comfortable and stylish accessory for your winter wardrobe.

MATERIALS
• Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted 225 yds/205m per 100g skein; 100% wool, 1 skein OR 200 yds of similar 100% wool worsted-weight yarn
• 4.5mm 16” circular needle AND double-pointed needles (OR, needle size required to obtain pattern gauge)
• 3.5mm 16” circular needle (OR needle size 2 sizes smaller than that required to obtain pattern gauge)
• Cable needle
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle

SIZING
• One size fits most.
• When finished, blocked, and laid flat, hat diameter measures 10.5 ins (across the centre of the beret “circle”)

GAUGE
• 18 sts/24 rounds over 4 ins in stockinette stitch on 4.5mm needles.

SKILLS
To execute this pattern, knitters will be required to:
• Work in the round
• Work knit and purl sts
• Work increases (m1) and decreases (k2tog, p2tog, slk2psso)
• Execute cables, with or without a cable needle

ERRATA
* From Dec 20th file:
After ribbing, change needle size to larger needle size, and work increase round as follows: K all sts, increasing to 144 sts evenly across round. (May be done as: K2, m1. rep to end.)
