The Ura Shawl was born from a quest for simplicity. It is a triangular shawl, knit from the top down, with an i-cord edge on all sides, and endless rows of stockinette blossoming into a classic old shale or feather and fan motif. Ura means “water” in Basque. The waves and rounded edges are reminiscent of the water in the sea. Designed for solid, heathered or semi-tonal colourways, can also be knit with speckled yarns by the most adventurous.
It was designed as a wrap for the next baby in our family, with the idea that the mama will be able to get some wear out of it when the baby grows. This makes it ideal for gift knitting (my favourite kind of knitting).
A note on gauge:
Since this is not a fitted garment, gauge is not essential. However, failing to meet gauge may alter the final dimensions of the shawl and the yarn amount required.
