The Vagaland Mitts feature a design based on a traditional Fair Isle motif, often incorporated in the gloves knitted by my Grandmother Mena. The techniques for constructing the cuff and thumb have been used by many generations of Shetland knitters, including my Grandmother Mena.

The folded cuff maintains pattern and design on the outside but also the benefits of snug ribbing on the inside giving a comfortable and double layer of warmth around the wrist. The thumb gusset and a folded, patterned cuff may prove a little challenging to a new knitter.

The Vagaland mitts are designed to be knitted on their own or to create a matching set with the Vagaland beret. As with all my patterns please pay particular attention to the required tension.
