Verdigris Cowl
The Verdigris Cowl is the follow-up to my Bubble Cowl - the one I designed as a nod to Elphaba from Wicked! My sample is knitted in a moody green palette, with a (somewhat grudging) pop of pink to remind Elphaba of her popular best friend.
This cowl is knitted in one piece starting with a provisional cast-on. You will work the colorwork chart until the cowl is slightly taller than you want it to be, then decrease and switch to a soft yarn for the lining. Once this is complete, you’ll increase again, unpick the provisional cast-on, and use a three-needle bind-off to graft the ends together.
This is a great project for any fingering-weight leftovers you have lying around! I like to use Shetland jumper-weight yarn for mine, but you can try anything you like. I would recommend that you stick to either a complete superwash palette or a non-superwash palette, just for simplicity in blocking, but have fun! You can use as many colors as you like, although the pattern is written for seven colors of Shetland yarn as well as another softer yarn for the inside of the cowl.
Note that the yarn for the lining should be thicker - a DK weight is recommended! You can also hold a strand of fingering-weight merino with mohair-silk or suri-silk.
