WanderKnit™ - Talavera Shawl
ABOUT
Inspired by Talavera pottery traditions found in Mexico and Spain, where rich colors are glazed onto an off-white base, this shawl contrasts bold colors in a pleasing manner. The tiles’ patterning tends to be symmetrical and fluid, which is reflected here in the colorwork and eyelet knitting. The Talavera Shawl is knit using the mosaic knitting technique, so you never work with more than two colors at a time.

PATTERN NOTES
This shawl is worked from the top down. Bands of
eyelet dotted garter stitch alternate with sections of
mosaic knitting.
Only one color per row is used throughout the piece.
When slipping stitches in mosaic sections, always
slip purlwise with yarn held to the wrong side of the
work. Cut colors after each color section. Because of
the large number of ends, it is recommended to knit
in ends and weave in previous tails as you go. Leave
long tails after weaving in ends, only trimming after
blocking is complete.
Increases are made with yarnovers. Always knit
increase yarnovers through the back loop on the
wrong side of the work to close up the hole.
This pattern is currently only available through the WanderKnits program. You can find this through many participating local yarn stores.
The pattern will be available for individual sale in October.
