I had a crescent-shaped shawl in mind for this book project – just not this exact design. It has definitely evolved over time, and I am so glad it did! The A Hundred Ravens Llyr colorways I used were partially responsible for the metamorphosis. Oceanus and Giverny really inspired the watercolor theme. The lace insets are more like drops of watercolor (says this confirmed acrylic paint user!), and the stripes in the lower portion really play up the almost dappled sunlight effect of the dyeing - there is so much depth to these colors.

The shawl’s generous crescent shape really lends itself to not only staying firmly in place on the shoulders, but also to being worn cowl-like, beautifully. The construction is not difficult, but some attention needs to be paid to creating the lace insets. This design is a nice mix of ease and interest with (I humbly suggest) a stunning result..
