Wave Diffraction
This reversible shawl’s simple construction makes it perfect for beginning knitters. Bands of stockinette and reverse stockinette are ideal for showcasing gradient yarns in either of two yarn weights.
YARN
560 yards/512 meters fingering weight yarn or 415 yards/380 meters worsted weight yarn

NEEDLES
Adjust needle size as needed to obtain gauge.
Fingering: US #4/3.5 mm 32”/80 cm circular needle
Worsted: US #8/5 mm 32”/80 cm circular needle

Stitch markers, tapestry needle
GAUGE
Fingering: 24 sts = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch after blocking
Worsted: 16 sts = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch after blocking

CONSTRUCTION
This triangular shawl is knit flat, starting at the nape of the neck with just 3 stitches. Yarn overs increase the stitch count, making the shawl gradually wider. A ribbed edging finishes the shawl prior to the bottom bind off edge.
To obtain one long, continuous gradient with an Ombré yarn (as shown below), alternate all skeins throughout.
