This cozy, large cowl makes clever use of its short-row colorwork motif by creating stripes of detail and movement. Worked entirely in the round, this project is ideal for understanding how short-row colorwork doesn’t always have to be worked flat!

Malabrigo Rios; superwash merino wool; 210yd/192m per 3½oz/100g skein
• 490yd/450m or 3 skeins in RIO227 Volcan (A)
• 75yd/70m or 1 skein in RIO655 Chaja (B)

NEEDLES
• Size 6 (4mm) circular needle, 20”/50cm long, or size to obtain
gauge

NOTIONS
• Size G/6 (4mm) crochet hook
• Stitch marker

GAUGE
20 sts and 40 rnds to 4”/10cm over garter st using size 6 (4mm) needles and Yarn B

PATTERN NOTES
1. This cowl is worked in the round from the bottom up. Adjusting the circumference is managed by adding or removing multiples of 16 stitches to the cast-on, and adjusting the depth is achieved by adding or removing repeats of Sections 1 and 2. To ensure the fabric remains balanced and to maintain pattern continuity, always end Section 2 after a Round 10 before working Section 3 to finish.
2. In Section 2 Round 9, you will work a “stacked” and “borrowed” short-row that sits immediately after the beginning of round marker.
