Weirs on The Dodder
The Weirs Along the Dodder knitting pattern is for a legwarmer and sock combination. Inspired by a system of little fishing weirs encouraging the river to run along in bubbles and swells. The pattern can be used to create a pair of leg warmers, a pair of matching socks, or a leg warmer with attached sock foot. The socks can be knitted either top down or toe up.
The leg warmer or long sock leg is knitted with 2 strands of sock yarn held double. The colour of the 2 strands of yarn is changed one at a time, creating an effective and intentional ombre effect, where the colour changes always fall in line with stitch changes. If working as just leg warmers, you can substitute a self-striping double knit yarn. However, this will not work if planning on adding the foot and creating a full sock which is worked with a single strand of sock weight yarn.
Sizes
The pattern comes in 7 sock sizes, 7 calf circumference sizes, and 5 leg lengths, which can be mixed and matched for a perfect fit.
Sock foot from 5 3/4” / 14.5 cm to 11” / 28 cm
Leg circumference from 6 1/2” / 21.5 cm to 17 1/4” / 44cm
Leg length from 13” to 21”, to be worn with 2 - 5” positive ease for a slouchy fit.

Accessibility
This pattern comes with a choice of 2 downloads.
The standard download uses a dyslexia friendly layout. It is presented in clear black sans serif text on a slightly off white background, in size 14 font for a comfortable reading experience for most. It follows the British Dyslexia Association guidelines for clear print documents (for example, all emphasis is in bold, no italics or block capitals.) it uses some abbreviations.
The Large Print download option uses size 22 font for a more comfortable reading experience, and eliminates all abbreviations, with each word written out in full. (For example, ‘knit 2 together’ or ‘make double stitch’ in place of ‘k2tog’ or ‘MDS’.)
