Weldon's Windsor Stitch
This so-easy pattern from ca. 1891 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 4, p.4, is good looking on both sides and it’s just slip, knit and purl with only 2 pattern rows! Row 1 has a 2-stitch repeat, row 2 has a 3-stitch repeat and the pattern when knitted looks like a 6-stitch repeat. Weldon included selvage stitches, so this stitch pattern is also good as an afghan strip as written.
The swatch is 4.25 inches wide and 4.5 inches long.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
40 yards of Lion brand 24/7 yarn will make 10 inches of a 24-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
