Whipperly Blanket
This clever design has been designed with easy travel in mind - it has a hole in it for baby car seat belts, making it easier to keep squirmy babies warm, safe and secure. I like the idea of baby blankets but once it’s time to pop baby in the car, the blanket always ends up anywhere but on the baby. I love the idea of a strategically placed ‘neck hole’ in the blanket to fit the fasteners of the seatbelt, keeping baby safe and secure. No cold children on frosty mornings and no more fed up mum having to pick things up every two minutes.
The yarn we chose for this blanket is machine washable, dries super-fast, wears like steel and will last for years. Make it in a bright colour or go for neutrals for a classic look. We chose orange and grey which would suit a boy or a girl, but we also liked navy with white or yellow and grey. We went with a darker ‘body’ to the blanket as it’s practical for little fingers, but it would look just as good with a lighter main colour and darker border.
Errata for those with the Knit Now version only! I did send a correction to Knit Now but had issues with my email bouncing back. The yarn quantities should be the other way around, five grey and three orange. Sorry about that. Also on the border I knitted the corner stitch on every row (including the purl row) for a neat edge.
