Wild honeysuckle grows nearby. The twisting stems wrap around the railings near the bridge across the river, the leaves appearing in late winter or early spring. Pale yellow flowers give off a heady scent on warm summer evenings, and autumn berries provide not only colour but food for native birds.

There are many myths associated with the plant. It was believed that growing it around a door would ward off evil spirits and bring good luck. The scent was also thought to induce dreams of an amorous nature!

This top down triangular shawl, with its winding stems and compact leaves surrounded by clusters of berries, features a variety of stitches to make the knitting interesting but intuitive once the pattern is established.

The sample was made using 2 skeins of Miss Babs Yummy 3-ply (100% merino) sport weight yarn in colourway Embossed.

The stitch patterns are charted only.

Gauge is not important but will affect the finished size and yardage required. The pattern will work with other yarn weights/yardages - instructions for working more or fewer repeats are included.
