The Willow Scarf is inspired by the graceful sway of willow branches, with a light lace texture that feels delicate yet playful. It’s a quick, beginner-friendly knit that flows easily off the needles and comes with instructions for three sizes—small, medium, and large—but the design is endlessly flexible. You can adjust the length, width, yarn, or color to create anything from a slim, dainty scarf to a cozy oversized wrap. However you shape it, the Willow Scarf will drape beautifully and adapt to your style.

The Willow Scarf is inspired by the graceful sway of willow branches—light, flowing, and endlessly adaptable. Written for DK weight yarn on 4.5 mm needles, it works beautifully in anything from fingering to chunky, making it easy to knit with whatever yarn you have on hand. For best results, choose a solid or softly tonal colorway to let the lace shine, since deeper or heavily variegated shades may hide the detail. Gauge isn’t fussy, so you can relax and enjoy the knit.

Construction is simple but satisfying: a short garter increase section eases you into the rhythm, flowing into a textured lace repeat that’s dainty, elegant, and easy to memorize. Garter decreases finish the piece in a mirrored point, while a faux I-cord edging is worked as you go for a polished finish.

The pattern includes three sizes—S, M, and L—but like the tree it’s named for, the Willow Scarf bends to fit your vision. Adjust the length, width, or yarn weight to create anything from a light, narrow scarf to a generous, cozy wrap. The lace repeat is worked over a multiple of 3 stitches plus 8, making customization simple, with notes to help you plan yardage and dimensions.

Beginner-friendly and quick to knit, the Willow Scarf combines soothing stitches, graceful drape, and step-by-step video tutorials to guide you from cast-on to bind-off—making this an approachable, rewarding project for knitters of all levels.

Please note that there is no exact yardage required for this pattern. The reason is because, obviously, everyone likes a different scarf length and I cannot accommodate all of that in the yardage. Same goes for the measurements, I have only included the length of my sample in the pattern. Please check out my test knitter’s lovely project pages where they show off the versatility of this pattern in all sorts of yarn and sizes! All sizes except custom have been tested.

This pattern is 8 pages long, but there are only 4 pages of actual knitting instructions. Look at the pattern photos to find a sample page of the pattern!
