Winter is definitely approaching. Time to make sure you are wrapped up nice and warm. And time to cast-on a new fun to knit project like Wizard Lizard. This shawl is a double layered modular knit perfect for a combination of long color gradients and hand dyed yarns.

I used Wollbonbon Merino 4 ply Polarlicht (available at wollbonbon.de), which has a very long color gradient for the quadrangles, and Wollmeise Pure Schahrayâr for the trim. Since the rows of the trim are very short you can achieve nice effects depending on the way the yarn is dyed. Schahrayâr is a semi solid, which adds a bit of verve to the trim with nice color dots. I knitted another version using two Zauberball Laceballs Mittelerde by Schoppel at the same time to obtain fingering weight and a longer color gradient. Also, turning it into a 2 ply yarn made the stitches pop a little so I was able to partner it with with the slightly thicker Wollmeise Pure Glückstag. Glückstag is colored in dip dyed fashion. You can see that you will get a striped trim as a result when using a dip dyed yarn. If you like the effect, make sure to get one of these for the trim. Glückstag and Mittelerde come from the same color spectrum, hence they work well together. But of course other color combinations are fine too.

No matter what your preference is, you will need two contrasting yarns of the same weight. Yarn A for the trim and the wedges and Yarn B for the quadrangles. The yardage of Yarn A should be at least 60% of the yardage of Yarn B. You can choose any yarn weight as Wizard Lizard comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Bear in mind that Wizard Lizard is double layered, so if you want to knit with dk it is going to be a very warm shawl.

Wizard Lizard is a seamless, modular knit. It is completely reversible and it can be draped like a scarf or a stole if you have knitted a bigger version.
