Wood Pigeon
This breed can be differentiated from other pigeons by a large, white patch on each side of the neck, below a smudge of iridescent green.
The Wood Pigeon begins with intarsia to create a colorful breast with gray on either side. The bottom of the breast is dappled with both colors, then stitches are joined in the round to work the end of the body and tail.
The wings are worked separately, in-the-round, then seamed to the body. A little bit of embroidery after stuffing brings out the uniqueness and elegance of this beautiful bird. The finished pigeon is 11” long and 4.5” wide.
Learn more about this wonderful animal and 24 others when you read the pages of a naturalist as she travels the world, documenting the animals she sees, and designing knitting patterns for each one. This book was a collaboration with my children who did the artwork.
