Yoal Gansey
Please note this pattern was extensivly updated and re-edited in November 2023.
This design is based on notes describing a traditional Fisherman’s Gansey in the style found on Foula. Sandra has designed this jumper in 5ply Shetland. The Gansey is knitted in the round until you reach the armpit gusset, you then work back and forth to the shoulders knitting the front and back separately. The shoulders are cast off together and stitches are picked up for the sleeves. The neck is picked up and worked back and forth, with a button band for the neck.
