SIMPLE SCRUNCHIE

This pretty hair scrunchie is knitted right onto a purchased covered elastic band. The majority of the designs in this book are created using the same basic technique. My elastic bases came from the Dollar Tree in a package of 8. It’s simple and quick and takes less than an ounce of yarn so you can make one to match any outfit, probably with the leftover yarn from the main knitting.

LACE SCRUNCHIE
This pattern is for standard gauge machines using any smooth yarn that knits well in the middle of the stitch dial. One size will result. Diamante yarn was used for the sample. Less than an ounce is needed. Also required is 24” of 2” wide lace similar to the one pictured. As long as the lace is thin enough to hang and has a convenient spot to push needles through, it should work. The final ingredient is an elastic band like those pictured. As long as you are successfully knitting around the elastic, gauge is not important. Set the stitch dial so the fabric is slightly looser than usual.

BIG SCRUNCHIE
Use any yarn that knits about the middle of the dial on any mid-gauge machine or standard machine. The sample is on a mid-gauge. Mid-gauge numbers are first in the pattern with standard numbers in brackets. Gauge is not very important. No patterning or ribber is required. One size is determined by the purchased elastic but you do have some room for self expression in the degree of ruffling created.

BEADED SCRUNCHIE
Use any yarn that knits about the middle of the dial on any mid-gauge machine or standard machine. Gauge is not very important. Use the stitch size that would work for a sweater, not socks. In other words, the fabric should not be overly dense for this design. No patterning or ribber is required. One size is determined by the purchased elastic but you do have some room for self expression in the degree of ruffling created.

FUR SCRUNCHIE
Use Lion Fun Fur or a similar yarn. Not all furry yarns knit well on machines. Look for one with a strong, slender center core, no fuzzy slubs and medium length hairs. Use maximum stitch size and every other needle on a mid-gauge or bulky machine. No patterning or ribber is required. One size is determined by the purchased elastic but you do have some room for self expression in the degree of ruffling created.

DAFFODIL SCRUNCHIE
This scrunchie is made a bit differently than the others in the book. One size. As knitted it is about 2” wide and 16” long but exact size is not important. Use any #1 or #2 weight yarn on any standard gauge knitting machine. No ribber or patterning ability is required. Stitch size throughout the project is about 7. Use whatever produces a nice fabric and knits well. A Passap machine may be used. Probably Passap stitch size is 6-6.5. Less than an ounce of yarn is needed. Sample is made with Cashmilon.
