These socks have a soundtrack. As soon as I started knitting on them, the song Time - Zeit by the German band Coppelius was stuck in my head. Its chorus roughly translate to Time flies, time runs out, never forget you’ll get old my child. Don’t forget. But knit to keep you warm whenever.

Of course, I love my cats, I really do. But sometimes their only goal in life seems to be driving me mad and destroying my home. They are rather hellish creatures if they decide to. These socks are meant to show that side of them. You can of course knit it in the colours of your cats as well, showing their friendly side.

This hat is a quick, fun variation of the Hellcats sock pattern that can easily be knit up in a day or two. I was able to squeeze it out of a 50g ball of my main colour, but you may need slightly more. It was great to use up those little bits left over from a sweater.

This chart was created on a roadtrip. It reminded my on the many patterns used when laying paving stones, a mosaic of their own, if mostly on a rather large scale. It is primarily just fun and easy to work.

Swirling like patterns the wind makes in the sand, this easy to memorise colourwork repeat has more effect over a full sock than the small chart makes you believe at first sight. Very addictive and quick to make, these sock knit up in no time.

These socks were created a long time ago in dk weight yarn, but now it is their time to shine. The simple flower motif reminded me a lot of the iconic allium flowers in Minecraft, hence the name. Easy, repetitive colourwork with a little pop of colour to brighten things up. Perfect summer knitting!

You need to take inspiration where it comes – and this one came from the pattern on a toothbrush. It turned out to be a quick, fun short repeat for a sock as well. Knit them up in summery fun colours to get ready for the season. Garments might be to warm to keep in your lap in summer, but you can always tolerate a sock, can’t you?

A proud fishhead can only write so many patterns until there has to be one with fish on it. There is a river close by where they have built a swirly set of stairs for the fish to climb past a small dam and go upstream. I’ve always liked looking the water there, but have never spotted a fish. Instead, they swim down these socks now.

My annual Christmas pattern has become a tradition I like to uphold whenever I can. In 2022, I did not find the necessary yarn in time and published this without a sample. This has been amended now, in January 2023. I hope you enjoy these socks!

While I don’t much like Christmas as a holiday, I do love the decorations going up everywhere during advent. All the lights! When I was knitting these socks, they reminded me of the big, fancy fairylights hung up in shopping streets, stars, comets, reindeer. Those big lights hanging across the streets and swaying in the wind.

After the Rialto series, we return to the game of Overwatch for inspiration: The map “Ilios” is located in a fictional future Greece and part of it features ruins with traditional buildings, pillars and mosaics. Irresistable to a colourwork knitter who sees the world in charted patterns.

A little gift to you to start off the New Year on a good foot.

My horse Nixe may not look as delicate as the creature she was named after, but she certainly enjoys playing with water. When we go to the beach, while soft waves roll over the sand, she likes to stick her head into the sea and blow big bubbles. These socks are my tribute to her favourite game.

The name of this pattern is a movie quote, of course. And while I was forced to watch said movie significantly more often than I would have liked, snow and ice are something I long for. And as we do not get any, why not at least knit my own personal flurry of snow for my feet?

Inspired by the brown and grey of a forest in winter, when all the leaves have fallen and been covered by snow, this is a close fitting, warm cowl with an easy stranded motif. Using sportweight yarn and rather large needles, it knits up quickly and makes a wonderful gift.
