About This Pattern

These socks were inspired by the ancient red deer petroglyphs at Ukhtasar in Armenia’s Syunik region as well as the animals of today that World Wildlife Fund Armenia is trying to bring back to the region after being hunted to extinction over 50 years ago.

This wraparound belt was inspired by a pair of socks from Sassoun that I saw on display at the Folk Museum in Yerevan, Armenia. The pattern includes a short essay about the region from which the socks came.

The Shabka slipper pattern was inspired by the time I spent in a village in Morocco’s High Atlas mountains, where I worked with shepherd-knitters to document the knitting patterns they had learned from their forefathers.
