Birch Path is a bulky weight cowl inspired by Anne of Green Gables and walks through the woods with a good friend.

These socks were inspired by the visible traces of seismic activity. Jagged lines of lace run down the front of each sock, placed slightly off-center; flanking areas of texture hint at the feeling of ruptured earth by adding rough edges to the smooth lines of the lace.

This pattern is part of the Sun and Fog Winter 2021 Collection, which includes nine ocean-inspired accessories from Northern California designers, each of which can be made with 100g of yarn or less.

These socks were inspired by a gap in my wardrobe and in my knitting bag.

This cowl is another result of my continuing fascination with lace + texture. A simple knit/purl basketweave pattern, opened up with eyelets, produces a fabric that is the perfect combination of airy and cozy.

This top-down triangular shawl is a fun and easy way to study the interaction of color and texture. Choose two favorite colors, cast on, and observe how simple stripes alternating between garter stitch and stockinette produce a complex effect with very little effort.

This top-down triangular shawlette is a fun and easy way to play with texture and color. The body is mostly plain, with a scattering of purl dots to provide visual (and knitting!) interest; slipped-stitch dashes give the stripes at the edge some extra flair. Pattern instructions are provided in both written and charted form.

The design of these lacy socks is inspired by a Frank Lloyd Wright Tree of Life window on view at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Diagonal eyelets represent the panes of glass, while the chevron shapes formed by the corresponding decreases mimic the lines of leading between them; an eye-of-partridge heel adds to the stained-glass effect.

Aroura is a triangular shawl with a relatively shallow point and longer tails, worked from the top center down to the bottom edge. It begins with a garter spine and stockinette body, then adds stripes of a contrasting color in an intricate-looking but easy-to-knit texture pattern, finishing with a garter edge.

This loop scarf is the second in my series of explorations of lace + texture. This time the two sides of the pattern are different, but I think each is pleasing in its own way: the right side combines a rib and welt stair step pattern with a strong diagonal line of eyelets, while the wrong side shows a series of offset rib segments with the eye...
