This reversible “ribbed border” is actually a stitch pattern but I kept the original name from an 1884 London journal. Sometimes I’m reminded of how useful even the simplest knitting patterns can be and how soothing that rhythmic motion is. The 1x1 ribbing is reversed at the end of every 6th row. It makes a thick, cushy fabric useful for scarves, hot pads, afghans and more. The stitch pattern is stable, so blocking is optional.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

48 yards of Wool of the Andes Tweed worsted yarn will make 10 inches of a 30-stitch swatch at gauge.
