As the colorful counterpart to the Copenhagen Mittens, the Antique Flora Mitts invite a journey through knitting history with a modern twist. Inspired by the rich, harmonious colors of aged tapestries, the design brings a vintage floral motif to a practical everyday accessory.

The pattern begins with a comfortable ribbed cuff before the floral colorwork blossoms across the hand. The result feels expressive but still wearable, a small project with plenty of room for color play and personal interpretation.

Design Details

Antique Flora Mitts are all about color. The stranded floral motif carries across the hand, balanced by simple ribbing that keeps the fit comfortable and secure.

They’re a great place to experiment with combinations you’ve been wanting to try. High contrast, tonal, faded, or stash-mixed all work beautifully, and each choice changes the character of the mitts.

Pattern Highlights

  • Floral colorwork that’s super fun to knit
  • A quick, satisfying accessory project
  • Comfortable ribbed cuff and thumb gusset fit
  • Perfect for stash yarn and creative color choices

Construction Overview

Antique Flora Mitts are worked in the round from cuff to fingertips. After the ribbed cuff, the stranded floral motif is worked across the hand.

A thumb gusset is incorporated into the colorwork pattern, and the thumb is completed after the hand. Ribbing at the cuff and top keeps the fit comfortable while maintaining the clean lines of the design.

Yarn Notes

We especially love a single-ply fingering weight yarn for this design. Our samples combine Miss La Motte merino singles with Yarn Nouveau Yak Single Merino, which gives the colorwork soft definition and depth.

That said, this pattern works wonderfully with stash yarn. The motif really comes alive when you choose colors that speak to you.
