Copenhagen Mittens capture the essence of Scandinavian design: functional, beautiful, and straightforward. Crafted from cozy DK yarn, these mittens are a tribute to traditional yet always contemporary Nordic style, featuring a flowing cable pattern that is a pleasure to knit.

The comfortable ribbed cuff flows into textured stitches and cables reminiscent of Copenhagen’s peaceful waterways. Full coverage makes them ideal for colder months, balancing warmth and style in an everyday accessory you’ll reach for often.

Design Details

The focus of Copenhagen Mittens is texture. The cable panel travels across the hand while the ribbed cuff keeps the fit secure and comfortable. The look is clean and timeless, designed to work equally well in classic solids or tonal yarns.

They’re the kind of mittens that feel practical but still special, a simple accessory elevated by good yarn and a satisfying cable pattern.

Pattern Highlights

  • Clean, classic cable texture
  • Comfortable ribbed cuff and thumb gusset fit
  • Warm but lightweight DK fabric
  • A satisfying quick project or gift knit

Construction Overview

Copenhagen Mittens are knit in the round from cuff to fingertips. The ribbed cuff is worked first, followed by the cable pattern across the hand.

A thumb gusset is shaped for comfort and fit, and the thumb stitches are completed after the hand. The mitten is finished with Kitchener stitch for a smooth closure.

Yarn Notes

Our sample uses Midknit Cravings Comfort Sport/DK (85% superwash merino / 15% nylon, 100g skeins). It’s soft, durable, and has clear stitch definition that shows the cables well.

You can substitute any sport or DK weight yarn you like. Tonals especially highlight the cable texture, but solids work beautifully too.
